Ingredients

Makes 2 cups

  • 2-3 tablespoons oil
  • 1/2 cup fried onion (pyaz dagh)
  • 1/2 cup yellow split peas
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened tomato paste
  • 250g lamb cut into small pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt (add more if you like)
  • 1 teaspoon gard e leemoo (dried lime powder)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon 
Directions
  • In a pot, add oil, fried onion, tomato paste and fry together for around 1 minute.
  • Now add yellow split peas, meat and fry for 5 minutes.
  • Now add water, gard e leemoo, salt, cinnamon and mix well.
  • Cover the pot, bring to boil, and let simmer on a low heat for 1 to 3 hours, depending on the type of meat you’re cooking.
  • All the liquid should be evaporated from this mixture.
  • Use this mixture according to the recipe in hand.
Tips

If you want to make this food faster, use the meat that cooks faster.

You can always freeze this mixture for when you need.

Always record the date on the container of food when storing in the freezer. 

Cooking Tips
When you grill, remove the meat from the fridge one hour ahead of time, to allow them to reach room temperature.
To have a spreadable butter for your sandwiches, keep the butter in room temperature for 1 Hour, or place it in the microwave oven for 15 to 20 seconds. Times vary depending on the amount of butter you need.
