How to make Spinach Stew (Khoresht Esfenaje)

Ingredients

4-6 Servings

Directions
  • Place fried spinach in a medium sized pot.
  • Add fried onion, water, cover and boil for 15 minutes.
  • Prepare meatballs (refer to the related video).
  • Now add the meatballs to the pot (you can cook them before adding if you prefer).
  • Add salt, lemon juice or verjuice, cover and cook on a medium low heat for 1 hour.
  • At this stage, you should be able to see oil forming on top of the stew.
  • Mix flour with water to make a smooth mixture, then add to the pot and cook for 5 more minutes.
  • Taste to see if you need to add more salt or lemon juice.
  • Serve this stew with steamed rice ( kateh or chelo ).
  • Now enjoy (Nooshe jan).
Tips

You can keep this stew (Khoresht) in the freezer in an airtight container for up to 3 months.

Always record the date on the container of food when storing in the freezer.
